Environmental efforts

Our business can never be environmentally friendly, but we can still make environmental efforts. Therefore, we work specifically with both overall environmental objectives and more detailed and directly measurable environmental efforts.

Overall environmental objectives:

  • Reduce the environmental impact of our business.
Example: Flying with as environmentally friendly planes as possible and seeing to that fuel consumption at take-offs and landings is minimized in accordance with the pilots' given recommendations.
  • Working with environmentally certified suppliers and partners.
Example: Companies with certification in accordance with EMAS or ISO 140001. PDF
  • Continuous training of own staff in environmental issues and sustainable development.
Example: Internal documents and guidelines for environmental efforts should be regularly updated, as well as presented to, and learned by personnel.
  • Reduce the amount of unsorted waste.
Example: Improved sorting procedures of all kinds of waste in the cabin and on the ground.
  • Food and drinks on board will be at least 50% home-grown within our hubs' vicinities or Eco-labeled.
Example: Local-produced goods to minimize transport emissions.

Measurable environmental objectives:

  • Environmentally trained staff.
Example: Training module consisting of environmental vision, environmental policy, new sorting routines, and resource-saving measures in the autumn of 2009.
  • Create routines for efficient waste sorting.
Example: Sorting of plastics, papers, newspapers, glass, aluminum, and composts. Applies to both cabin and ground operations.
  • Halving the amount of waste.
Examples: Not printing e-mails unnecessarily, saying no to unwanted/unnecessary direct mail, holding back on disposables.
  • Increasing environmental purchases by 50% by the end of 2009.
Example: Start more collaborations with local and regional suppliers to minimize transport of goods.

Of course we also have a number of employee-related eco-tips that are often put in practice in our workplace. We strive at Wings of Bornholm to live by these measures:

  • Turning off the light when you leave a room.
  • Thinking before you press the "print" button.
  • Paper has two sides. Please write on both sides if you are just 'scribbling'.
  • Always sort waste!
  • Turn off your computer screen if you aren't going to use it for a while.
  • Take the charger out of the socket when you have finished charging.
  • Avoid disposable items if there's glass and porcelain.
  • Please car-pool with a colleague to work if you can.

We continuously measure and revise our targets. The results will be presented here.
