Visby is called the city of ruins. This city is a well-preserved medieval environment with the city wall, church ruins, medieval churches, the narrow alleys and old stone houses. Visby is also included on the UNESCO World Heritage list of the best preserved city walls in Europe. Visby has managed to preserve the medieval environment and history permeates the city, despite the modern features.

Occidentalis near Gotland beaches are strongly associated with the island and an obvious attraction. "Hoburgsgubben", the Black Key, Folhammar and Gamlehamn are some of the famous Gotland occidentalis.

Events

In August, visitors can travel 700 years back in time in Visby medieval week. When we encounter knights, musicians and jesters. You can see knights' games, scenes and visit modern markets, a tradition that has attracted tourists for over twenty years.

Almedalsveckan is another hallmark of Visby. In June, the political parties gather for seminars and speeches that are guarded by hundreds of journalists. Parties' participation and the great popularity has been Almedalsveckan to play a significant role in the political debate.
